Avoiding Icebergs Through Preventative Research
April 21, 2021
1:00 – 1:45 p.m.
Get fit by mixing up your routine: leverage the power of preventive design. We live and design in a culture of make, make, make! It’s the corporate world, so what else would we expect? More products = more money, right? Find new ways to increase stamina and endurance through the vital function of design research: prevention. Stopping a ship before it hits an iceberg would be applauded. Training our organizations to approach so-called “failed” projects with a flexible mindset, can lead to a savings in millions of dollars in development costs. Preventive design can help us shift toward celebrating purpose-driven outputs rather than output for the sake of output.
At the end of this session you’ll:
- Understand how to leverage design thinking and user research before you start to productize for cost savings.
- Learn how to give yourself permission and take responsibility for shutting down a project that isn’t serving the customers.
- Receive advice on how to set up your user research approaches so you eliminate/acknowledge biases up front.
- Increase your strategies for curating research findings to yield a decision
